Justine Hamlin earned her Bachelors of Music in Clarinet Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and her Masters of Music in Clarinet Performance from the New England Conservatory (NEC) and later, a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine.  While at NEC, Justine became more active in chamber music and studied solo repertoire under the direction of world-famous soloist Richard Stoltzman. In addition, Justine’s teachers include Ixi Chen, Ronald Aufmann, Yehuda Gilad, and Luis Baez.

As a performer, Justine freelances and performs in chamber ensemble and solo recitals including being a founding member and artistic director of the chamber ensemble Windscape . Other ensembles she has performed with include the Fresno Philharmonic, Santa Cruz Symphony, West Bay Opera, New Music Works, Berkeley Symphony, Oakland Symphony, and others. 

Justine’s approach to clarinet playing is founded in an efficient use of technique informed by her practice as a licensed physical therapist and board-certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist. Through awareness of movement and informed practice, Justine embraces an ideal of effortlessness in her clarinet technique which allows for enhanced musical performances.

Justine Hamlin is a concert clarinetist available for freelance bookings, solo performances, or with the chamber ensemble Windscape in San Diego County. She is also a member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 325, and the Performing Arts Medicine Association.
